It's very important to look your best at an interview. Unless otherwise notified the attire of an interview should be business professional. If you are unsure of what is appropriate it is always smart to wear business attire.
What should you wear?
A two piece suit in conservative colors: black, navy, grey, or brown. The suit can be either pant or skirt, although a skirt suit is more traditional and sometimes preferred in the corporate world. Be careful with the length and the tightness of the skirt. You should look as creative and professional as possible.
Stocking should match the outfit. If you wear a light colored suit then wear light colored stockings. Avoid any prints or opaque stockings.
A cotton or silk white or neutral collard blouse should accompany your suit. The blouse should loose and have sleeves in case you have to take off your jacket.
Shoes should be pumps with up to a 1.5 inch heal. The color should compliment the outfit in a neutral color, such as black, brown, or navy. Avoid open toe shoes and boots.
In addition to clothes, when dressing in business professional attire it is important to be properly put together. Hair should be clean and neat. All body art and non-earlobe piercings need to be covered. Make-up should be conservative; extreme styles and colors should be avoided. If you choose to wear jewelry it should be conservative. Watches and simple, non-dangling earrings are acceptable. Perfume is not necessary, and in some instances discouraged. If you do wear a fragrance, it should be very light in order to not overwhelm your interviewer, boss, or client.
Remember this is your first impression and in some cases it might be your last. It is important that your outfit is clean and pressed. It is in your best interest to invest in quality as it will reflect on you.
